What Does the Test Consist of?
The C&G 2382-22 Test consists of 60 questions in 8 parts:
Part 1: Scope, Object and Fundamental Principles
- What it covers and excludes, and its intended goals
- 4 Questions (Questions 1 to 4)
Part 2: Definitions
- Definitions of terms and abbreviations
- 2 Questions (Questions 5 to 6)
Part 3: Assessment of General Characteristics
- Key considerations when first designing an installation
- 6 Questions (Questions 7 to 12)
Part 4: Protection for Safety
- Steps to take for safeguarding the user and the installation
- 15 Questions (Questions 13 to 27)
Part 5: Selection and Erection of Equipment
- Choosing materials to use
- 14 Questions (Questions 28 to 41)
Part 6: Inspection and Testing
- Certification of installations, what tests to carry out and what to look at during an inspection
- 4 Questions (Questions 42 to 45)
Part 7: Special Installations and Locations

What Can I Take With Me?
Anyone taking test is allowed to refer to the Wiring Regulations book during the exam. Additionally, test takers should take an appropriate scientific calculator.
The purpose is to test your understanding and ability to apply knowledge, rather than just memorising information. The focus is on problem-solving, analysis, and critical thinking skills.
The exam centre may allow you to use your own book if it only contains the following (for example):
- Bookmarks
- Blank post-it notes
- Marks indication parts of the book
- Highlighted passages of text
The exam centre may not allow you to use your own book if it contains the following (for example):
- Example test questions with answers
- Inserted or drawn diagrams
- Any additional writing or inserted notes
- Any marks, notes etc. that could provide you with an unfair advantage compared to other test takers
The examination centre may require that a test taker uses a ‘clean’ version of the book without any notes or marks.
Some centres may provide ‘clean’ copies of the book, but others do not.
It is the test takers responsibility to check and comply with the rules and requirements of the examination centre before taking the test.
How Long Does the Test Take?
The test has a 2 hour time limit to complete all 60 questions.
